Goian Alde Zaharra
Goian is a socio-educational association based in the Old Town of Vitoria-Gasteiz, focused on promoting coexistence through respect, communication, and cooperation among individuals, groups, and organizations within the community.
Its work primarily supports children and adolescents in the neighborhood, especially those in vulnerable social situations or newcomers to the area.
Through cultural, sports, and community activities, Goian aims to strengthen the sense of citizenship and belonging, encouraging active participation from various social and community stakeholders in the neighborhood
Project Vision
Every year more and more foreign families come to Vitoria-Gasteiz looking for the opportunity to start a new life and to integrate into the community. For this reason, I have decided to improve the website so that it is intuitive and easy for those people who are not familiar with technology.
Challenges
-
Design a cohesive interiace for familiar and unfamilar users.
-
Correct use of iconography, typography and color for a good accessibility
-
An intuitive user flow
-
Create a easy way for sign in the activities

Process
After talking to several parents and even teenagers about the usability of the existing website, I have realized all the problems it presents:
-
The website is confusing; you don't know where each section is located.
-
You can only register children in the office, not online.
-
The mobile version does not have good usability and is difficult to use.
-
The design is dull and unattractive

Fatima
Age: 37
Hometown: Moroco
Family: Husband and 3 kids
Occupation: cleaning lady
Fatima is a cleaning worker who arrived in Vitoria less than a year ago. She came with her husband and three children. Fatima has been recommended to sign her children up to the Goian association, as it will help them with the language and to integrate into the community. She doesn't really understand the website and where to look for each activity, so she thinks it is not very intuitive.

Unai
Age: 46
Hometown: Vitoria-Gasteiz
Family: Divorced with 2 kids
Occupation: Teacher
Unai is a teacher with a tight schedule; his children have been attending Goian's activities for years, but the more time passes, the more responsibilities he has and the less time he has to take care of them. The website doesn't allow children to sign up for the activities directly; they have to go to the office, and it takes up a lot of time. Unai would like the website to have this function.

Edurne
Age: 17
Hometown: Vitoria-Gasteiz
Family: Parents and 2 little sisters
Occupation: Student
Edurne is a student who spends most of her time looking after her two little sisters. Her parents don't have time to look after them as they are working full-time. In the afternoons, Edurne takes her sisters to their respective activities. She uses her mobile phone to check updates and excursions for the month, as they don't have a computer at home. She finds it very frustrating that the website does not work well; it is not very usable, and it is very confusing.

Takeaways
Since I was six years old, Goian has been like a second home to me. My family arrived in Vitoria when I was very young, and along with my sisters and brother, we found in this group a place to grow, learn, and feel part of the community.
Through the activities I participated in—circus, cooking, multisport, and basketball—I learned much more than just technical skills. The circus taught me discipline and creativity, cooking showed me the value of teamwork, multisport helped me build confidence, and basketball instilled in me the importance of camaraderie. Each experience helped me integrate better and gave me valuable life skills.
Now, as a UX Designer, I used all the knowledge I got from the Google certificate to improve the usability and visual design of Goian’s website. I do this with my heart, as a way to give back all that this community has given me. I want future generations of children and families to find in Goian the same support and warmth that I had so that their path to integration is even easier and more enriching.
